For most of the web's life, your code lived in one place and your users lived everywhere else. The round trip was the price of admission.

Edge runtimes invert this. The function moves; the data, mostly, follows. The interesting question is no longer 'where is my server?' but 'where can my decision be made?'

Some decisions need the database. Many do not. Learning to tell them apart is the new craft.
